How many times have you said (or hear someone say) that the hours in a day are not enough?

Well, today is the longest day according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The country experiences summers solstice today says the state weather bureau. What does this mean exactly in layman’s term? The day is the longest and the night is the shortest.

Summer Solstice falls around noontime on today, Wednesday at 12:24 p.m. “Where the Sun attains its greatest declination and passes directly overhead at noon making our day longer by more than an hour.” So what do you plan on doing with your extra hour?

With Mr. Sun out a little longer today, here are the three things that you might want to add to your agenda. Even just for today.

1. TAKE A QUICK RUN OR EXERCISE AFTER WORK

For those working in a 9-5 job, it’s difficult to add an hour of jogging when the sun is already setting once you step out of the office.

However, because of the summer solstice, it will be a brighter afternoon than usual, you have an extra hour! So skip the rush-hour traffic and lace up your trainers before going home. Your heart will thank you for the additional calorie burn, and your mind will thank you for the fresher air.

2. DO SOME CLEANING

Contrary to popular belief, cleaning can be therapeutic. It doesn’t have to be your house; it could be your hard drive, your closet, your desk or even just the sink.

Even just for today, take a few minutes that you would usually use to scroll through your phone and clear your space. Do it mindfully, and treat each act as a step closer to clarity. Remember that saying in grade school? Yup, cleanliness is next to godliness.

3. DO ANYTHING A LITTLE BIT LONGER.

May it be reading books, eating, watching a movie or a series – sleeping, or spending extra on you your daily prayer, make it a little longer and add at least 30 minutes more just to sit in silence and let your heart listen to God’s voice.

The summer solstice often elicited celebrations from pagans but there’s no reason for you to take it as an opportunity to bask in your faith. Feel the contentment or confusion rushing through your veins depending on how you are feeling today. Let it soak, and then, lift it up to God.

4. HONOR THE SKY

Give yourself some time.. You might also want to consider doing sky-seeing, it’s not everyday we get to experience a summer solstice, wait for the sunset and let yourself be free for a moment.

Today can be just another day, but what makes it special is YOU. You choose to make it special and meaningful for yourself. (Riz Ponti)
